In his exhibition of new works at Ejecta Projects titled Lethal Lounge, MacDonald creates sculptures that suggest futuristic landscapes, architectural models, and surreal interior design. The artist examines how current modes of production and utilitarian objectives compare with ideas about hand-made craft, ceramics, and aesthetics. He envisions the medium of clay as a conduit between past and present notions of material innovation. In other words, MacDonald sees a trajectory from ancient clay vessels to ceramic 3D printing in order to understand the relationship between innovation and tradition. MacDonald is interested in how one’s personal, human presence can be understood and felt within an increasingly global and disjointed community.
